The short version

You are trusting us with information about your parent — including recordings of their voice. We take that responsibility seriously. Here is the gist of how we behave with that information:

  • We do not sell your data, ever.
  • We do not share recordings or transcripts with third parties.
  • Your parent gives explicit consent before any call is recorded.
  • Recordings are encrypted at rest and in transit.
  • You can delete recordings, transcripts, or your entire account at any time.
  • We use a small number of carefully chosen service providers (telephony, hosting, payments) to make Tellie work, and they are contractually bound to handle your data securely.

The rest of this policy goes into the details. If you have any questions, write to privacy@tellie.app and a real person will reply.

What we collect

From you (the family member)

  • Your name, email, and phone number
  • Payment information, processed by our payment provider — we do not store your full card number
  • Communications you send us (emails, support requests)
  • Basic usage data about your dashboard (pages visited, features used)

From your parent

  • Their name and phone number, provided by you at signup
  • Recordings and transcripts of their daily check-in calls, with their explicit consent
  • Notes derived from those calls — what they ate, slept, mentioned
  • Any preferences they share (call time, topics they enjoy or avoid)

How we use it

We use the information we collect to:

  • Place the daily check-in calls and produce summaries for you
  • Notice patterns or changes worth flagging
  • Send you alerts when something appears urgent
  • Manage your subscription and process payments
  • Reply to your support requests
  • Improve the quality of our service (with strict access controls — see Security)

We do not use your parent's recordings or transcripts to train artificial intelligence models for sale or use by anyone outside Tellie.

Sharing & selling

We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone, ever. This is a permanent commitment.

We do not share recordings or transcripts with third parties outside of the limited service providers listed below who help operate Tellie.

Service providers we use

To run Tellie, we work with a small number of vendors. They are bound by contract to use your data only to provide their service to us, and to handle it securely:

  • Telephony provider — places and receives calls
  • Cloud hosting provider — stores recordings and account data
  • Payment processor — handles billing
  • Email provider — sends summaries and account notifications

Legal requests

We will only disclose your information in response to a valid legal process (such as a court order). When the law permits, we will notify you before doing so.

Consent & recordings

Your parent's consent is the foundation of how Tellie works. Here is how it operates:

  • On the first call, we tell your parent who we are and why we are calling.
  • We ask for their permission to call them daily and to record those calls for the purpose of producing summaries for you.
  • We record their consent — both audibly and in our records.
  • Your parent can revoke consent at any time, on any call. We will stop recording immediately and end the daily call program until you and your parent decide on next steps.
  • Family members you add to the dashboard see the same summaries you do. Adding a sibling is your choice.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy law (GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA in California, PIPEDA in Canada, and similar). Regardless of where you live, every Tellie family has the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of all the data we hold on your account.
  • Correction: Correct any inaccurate information.
  • Deletion: Delete individual recordings, transcripts, or your entire account.
  • Portability: Export your summaries and transcripts in a standard format.
  • Withdraw consent: End the service and have your data deleted within 30 days.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@tellie.app. We will respond within 30 days.

Security

We treat your family's data with the care it deserves. Specifically:

  • All recordings are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256).
  • Access to recordings is restricted to a small number of authorized personnel and logged.
  • Payment information is handled by our payment processor and not stored on our servers.
  • We use multi-factor authentication on all internal systems.
  • We conduct regular security reviews and address vulnerabilities promptly.

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data incident affecting your information, we will notify you promptly and explain what happened, what was affected, and what we are doing about it.

Retention & deletion

We keep your account information for as long as you have an active subscription, plus a short period after cancellation to handle final billing and any disputes (typically 90 days).

Recordings and transcripts are retained for up to 12 months by default, so we can detect long-term patterns. You can shorten this retention period in your settings, or delete recordings individually at any time.

When you delete your account, we permanently delete your account information and your parent's recordings within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records (such as billing records for tax purposes).

Minors

Tellie is designed for adult children of aging parents. The service is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have done so, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect, and the updated policy will appear on this page with a new "last updated" date. You can always email us with questions about any change.
